Next Topics in the Business of Wedding Photography Series

Learning to make excellent images is only half of the equation to being a professional photographer. Learning to build, promote and run a successful business is equally important if you want to make a career of photography. To help with this process, Managing Editor Hannah Thiem has gathered a group of Photo.net's most active and successful wedding photographers for a discussion on the business of wedding photography. Covering everything from promotion to legal issues, there will be 11 articles in all. The next 2 topics have been published:

7. Organization on the Job - Before, During and After the Wedding
8. Working with assistants and second shooters

"There are three parts to my paperwork: the contract, the model release, and the information sheet. The info sheet includes all details about the couple, the day booked, who will be the contact for each part of the day/venue, etc. I then archive a digital copy of everything (I scan the paper copies) and do as much as possible through email." -David Wegwart

"I only use assistants in about 20% of my weddings. Having special knowledge about cameras is not needed. I want someone who is totally reliable, very friendly, knows how to interact with guests in a smooth manner, and knows what is going on photographically." -Conrad Erb
